Two quite different things to me.
Dust on the sensor affects the image, viewfinder dust doesn't.
I wouldn't make a purchase decision based on the Canyon dust removal. It
doesn't seem to be anywhere near as effective as Oly's system, unless
you know of a newer and/or better test than this one.
<http://pixinfo.com/en/articles/ccd-dust-removal/> They didn't test the
mapping feature, though.
On the other hand, I haven't found dust on the sensor of my 5D to be a
big deal. I finally got a fair amount on there on a recent trip. Even
so, it was only visible in a minority of the shots. Only shots with
light colored, relatively blank spaces that are taken at smaller
apertures show it. When I got home, a few puffs of air cleaned out all
but one significant bit. I could see it on the sensor and blew it off too.
There are still, always, I think, some small, weak specks visible at
100% on blue sky at smallest aperture, but they have yet to be visible
in an actual shot I've taken.
And then it only takes moments to clean it up in PS. It's nothing like
the pain of dust on film scans.Would I like a system as effective as
Oly's on the 5D? Sure. But it just not a big issue for me.
Viewfinder dust doesn't affect the image, so being bothered by it is
purely a personal thing. I'm sure there are people who can't stand it. I
see some when I look for it. I don't see it when I'm using the
viewfinder to take pictures. First time I cleaned the sensor, I also
cleaned the viewfinder. The second time, I didn't bother.
It's a snap to clean. It can only be visible when on the matte surface
of the screen, otherwise, it's not in focus and invisible. Pull out the
interchangeable screen, blow off (or maybe use John's goose feather
technique.) and put it back in. Would that sensor cleaning were so easy.
I suspect that a lot of viewfinder dust is a result of vigorous mirror
box blowing pushing dust up there.
