I've seen people write that the E300 is ugly etc but I don't agree with you
Andrew. My wife picked up my E300, noticed it was significantly lighter than
my E1, and that was the last I got to hold it except when she wants me to
take a picture of her using HER camera. The majoriity of the real estate
agents seem to be the same way. They don't care about the tool, just that it
doesn't get in the way and that it gives them acceptable pictures. The
little credit card sized cameras are what get the oohs and aahhs. I think
the same holds true for many of the younger generation. I've seen
complaints here that mediocrity is celebrated and that young people think
phone cameras are good enough. I think if a camera company came out with a
tiny, easily operated automatic camera, that yieled great pictures it would
have at least 100 times as many people interested in it as a full frame
digital C*non.

I think if Olympus had put the E1 in a package closer to what the E410 is,
Olympus would have sold 5 times as many. There was an interview of some
Olympus people I believe by a Ukrainian camera club that was posted here a
couple years ago. The Olympus people discussed that if the E-1 were made
small like the OM-1, then it wouldn't be considered "professional". I like
the ergonomics of the E1 but if it were half the size, they probably could
have made the same impact the OM-1 did. Instead Pentax and even Canon came
out with SLRs noticeably smaller first. It's a shame that it took Olympus so
long to come out with the E410 but I'd bet they will make a lot of money
from it anyway.
