I see it differently. When I started out in photography, there was VPS. It
sucked. At ASA 100, the grain was painful, but we used it. I have yet to
completely get away from overexposing coor negative film to counteract this.
Ektachrome 64 was finer grained, but far, far from current standards.
Today, it takes 1600 speed CN to come close to VPS. The current 400 speed
films are better than 100 speed was ten of fifteen years ago. Even 1600
speed is far improved.
I think that grain/noise wise, we are with digital at the same place film
was in about 1980.
Let's hope things improve soon.
