I usually carry the 135 f-2.8 and a wide angle such as the 24mm when hiking.
The 135 might be more available. /jmac

Trying to be more helpful, if you want it for a light hiking lens the
100/2.8 is probably a good alternative... It's a good alternative anyway,
just as small and light really, very similar performance, and the one stop
smaller aperture wouldn't hold you back much out and about?
