If I remember correctly the technique that I used was to use a
syringe to soak the sponge with Windex, almost to the point of
overfilling its tray. Then, you to turn the printer off and it parks
the head on the sponge and the Windex breaks down the ink on both the
head and on the sponge. Let it sit overnight and then soak up the
Windex from the sponge with a paper towel and run several sheets of
plain paper through the printer to be sure there's no residue on the
head. This technique will also work for those stubborn head clogs on
the 1270-1280 series of printers.
Later,
Johnny
