For a number of years I've been using an Epson 1280 and have quite frankly
been pleased with the results. I find myself participating in more art
shows/sales and not having the state of the art ink technology is a hindrance
in
talking to people who are potentially willing to pay you relatively big bucks
for your images.
So, although I've been near buying an Epson 9800 or 7800 in the past year, I
just pulled the trigger on the 3800 which I think may get me through until
the next generation of the 9800/7800 series arrives. There does not seem to
be much not to like about it and I will be able to print somewhat larger
images. I'm on a wait list at inkjetart.com, hey, but at least I'm on the
list.
While popping into a small camera store last week the owner told me the e-2
had just been announced to the trade and it was going to be 14 megapixels -
well, I was near the coast, but I didn't take it hook, line and sinker. We
will see.
I've suggested to a couple of friends who asked about DSLRs, that they
include the Sony Alpha 100 in the cameras they look at as it seems to be
feature
rich and priced in a range that many feel comfortable with spending. I was at
Comp USA the other day and figured I might ought to grab hold of one and
give it a spin myself. It was tethered to the counter, however you could get
some sense of what it was all about. Seemed to work well, focused nice and
close and in general seemed reasonably acceptable for the consumer market. It
was however, when compare to the build and quality of an e-1, a piece of cr#p.
Sony buyers will IMHO get a bunch for their money, however what they won't
get is a finely made piece of photographic equipment.
Oh, well . . . hope the e-2 will be out soon and that my purse has
recuperated a bit from the printer purchase. <[8^) Bill Barber
