The original OM-2 had 2 main switches to turn the main camera circuit
on. One is linked to the arm that stops the lens down, the other turns
on when the mirror swings up. Mirror switch is in parallel and was
there in case the main-main switch failed. If a mirror lock up knob was
available and you left the mirror locked up, batteries would go dead
over night.
OM-2N (and possibly later 2 production) did away with the mirror switch.
Theoretically, you could add mirror lock, swapped over from an OM-1,
but you'd have to get the mirror lock parts, drill several holes in
exactly the right place, tap a few of them in the correct place. I was
thinking of adding it to a 2N then sell the body. I'll do it in my
spare time.
