So far I'm perfectly happy with my little 300D - my next big outlays next
year will be on goodies for it. I really want a lens with longer reach than
the 18-55mm (and preferably with IS). But until then, I'll just take photos
for which the 300D is currently well suited and use my film SLRs for the
telephotos. My next buy for the 300D will be a 58mm filter system - probably
Cokin series P. I think Cokin also makes an A to P Adapter that permits the
use of A-series filters on a P-series filter holder - basically, it's just
an A series holder with little slides down the sides to fit into the larger
P series holder. Only problem is there may be some vignetting with wide
angle shots - but that's no big deal until I get P series filters. And
filters aren't as necessary with digital because there's always photoshop et
al.
As for mp after mp increases, I'll only worry when I personally deem higher
mega-pixel counts necessary. I think every 35mm user dreamt about owning a
Hasselblad or Bronica medium format - but when you thought of the use you'd
make of it and the additional expense, sanity invarariably returned ;)
I'm not in any rush to go out and buy a 5D body - so far the only fault I
have with the 300D is it's lack of onboard IS/anti-shake. I don't take the
lens off (since it's the only lens I have for it right now) so I'm not
worried about sensor dust yet.
I know the 300D isn't anywhere near the buid quality of my A1 - but I expect
at least 5 years use from my 300D, if I'm careful with it. I might treat it
to some new CF cards soon as I do wonder how many reuses a card will stand
before developing problems. But again, at the moment, I never take the card
out of the camera. My biggest worry with the 300D is the LCD screen on the
back - it still strikes me as the most fragile part of the camera!
