Sounds like Ali is in a similar situation to me. I'll buy into the low to
medium end of Nikon or Canon to see how well I get on with digital SLRs.
I've used Olympus film SLRs and the odd Nikon film SLR for years - and an
Olympus E series DSLR would seem the way to go - but, in the town where I
live, the only Olympus digitals you see are compacts. I bought a Camedia
C150 compact as a low cost step into digital - and that, plus my Pen EE, are
my 'snap-shot' compacts. I'd use the Camedia a LOT more if it wasn't so
heavy on batteriy power! Thats why I'm keeping my faithful OM2 classic - I
sold my OM2 SP because it was so battery hungry. I'm glad I just recently
bought a s/h Fujica STX1n - which is a fairly nice (if lbasic/imited)
mechanical SLR that only needs batteries for the metering. If the batteries
fail, I can still use the full range of its shutter speeds and I can guess
the settings and bracket shots if I need to! I also need to buy a new
charger and rechargeable batteries as the rechargeable batteries I had have
run their course.
