An alternate viewpoint. Some years ago, I became a single parent with 7
and 17 year old sons. One of my biggest problems was communications. The
operative rule was that whenever I really needed a phone, all phone
booths (remember those?) would have inoperative phones or none at all.
I got my first cell phone - what a relief! Stuck in traffic? I could
call the school and assure them I hadn't forgotten the kid an was close
to arriving. Finally started dating; my pocket vibrates in the
restaurant and I am easily informed of a change of plans of where one of
the kids will be tonight.
I consider the cell phone to be a useful tool to make my life easier.
