Your friend dropped GSM, not GPS. The Feds don't give you a choice
about GPS; the most you can do is restrict the GPS use to 911 calls
(or switch off the phone!). There's an alphabet soup full of
acronyms for just about any electronic technology you can name. If
all you want to do is place and take calls, you can ignore a lot of
letters by buying the service, not the phone. :-)
