Utterly by chance, I just read the following in the instruction manual for
an OT film camera:

"Under normal circumstances, the shutter can be released 100,000 times or
more [wait for it, the best bit is yet to come]
..................................................................... with a
single battery"

Puts things in perspective?

The manufacturer of the OT camera has recently disposed of its camera lines,
digital as well as analogue.

A used 10D body is only worth about $400-500. Like I said, at 108,000
cycles the shutter has already gone well beyond its expected life.
Never stated by Canon for the 10D but was probably in the range of 30-50,000
cycles. I think the shutter assembly is $200. The mirror box must be an
equivalent price if available. So, I think a $400 parts bill on a $400-500
camera is rationally considered not repairable.

I'd be very surprised if the E-1 shutter goes much beyond 100,000 cycles but
I wouldn't expect the mirror box to break.
