The ability to zoom in on a monitor certainly raises the bar and our
expectations. I remember my first film scans, and how I really started
to notice things. It was a shot with the 21/2 and the chromatic aberration
around the edges of the frame.
What once was an OK photo is now considered a reject. I'm still not
convinced that sometimes the auto-focus is right, I feel the E-1 lenses
are easier to focus than the C*noBorg lenses. I particularly liked the
50-200 manual focus, and the little clicking noises from the stepper motor.
I still focus by going back and forth, then estimating the center point.
I have problems with modern zoom lenses and focusing.
With my eyes though, the light level also makes a difference. I think
my eyes focus differently with wide open pupils, and it is not just
DOF difference with narrow pupil.
