The "umbrella handle" points toward the subject. The light points toward the
reflective inner surface of the umbrella. It is diffused and reflected
toward the subject. this is the same as the conventional use of the umbrella
over the years.
There are those that flash through an umbrella. This is a cheap and not
entirely effective way of getting a softbox. It requires an umbrella with a
translucent surface. The Larson fabric is highly reflective and unsuitable
for this use.
Note that the Laarson fabric is reversable. There were several choices,
including hiighly reflective and not so, and warm and cool.
