It can be a big money drain, but if you carry a tripod most of the time the
Arca-Swiss style quick release is worth it. I had several Bogen/Manfrotto
heads and over a half dozen lens plates that I replaced. Vibration with the
long telephotos drove me to the Arca-Swiss style heads. My Zuiko 135mm/4.5
has a 4" long lens plate mounted to it, giving a macro focusing slider at
almost no extra cost.
I use a light weight head (Acratech) and light weight tripod probably 95% of
the time. It is much more stable than the heavier head and tripod I started
with and much lighter. I actually prefer carrying the camera mounted to the
tripod compared to the camera hanging around my neck and no tripod.
Best wishes,
-jeff

Jeff, thanks for taking the time to explain, now it does make sense. A world
of possibilities... at a price of course ;-)
