You folks all know about the imminent arrival of SED monitors, don't
you? They combine the best of LED and CRT experiences into a flat
panel display. Here's a recent article about them:

Timelines for release, at least for computer monitors, are said to be
end of 2006 to 2007 or thereabouts. I'm holding out as long as I can
-- I've got a 21 inch Nokia Multigraph 445Xpro that's seen scant use
in recent years (keeps the screen looking nice -- for my daily stuff,
I just use my laptop). I'm crossing my fingers on SED. Haven't been
happy with LED, backlit LCD or plasma, which is why my wife and I
recently purchased a largeish CRT-based TV for the living
room. Heavy, yes -- but at least we can actually see the picture!
