A short comment:
I live in the U.S. so I can verify part of what you say, at least! <g>
I replaced a 13-year OLD Sony 27" Trinitron (CRT) which was definitely on it's
last legs with a new flat screen Panasonic 32" LCD.
At the same time, I signed up to receive Hi-Definition reception, via satellite.
We are extremely satisfied with the doubling of the resolution given by HD
television. It's a whole new world of viewing!
The space gained by giving up my 115+ lb CRT, and replacing it with a 42 lb.
flat screen is lovely! At least *I* can move this one around!
Having said that, I am NOT a devotee of LCD screens available today!
In contrast and nuances of color, and definition, it's questionable they will
ever replace a good CRT like the Trinitron tube was.
But, you almost need a hand truck to move the CRT should you need to. And, as
sizes go up, the glass in the CRT needs to be ever thicker, so it's almost a
permanent installation!
All in all, it's a trade off in ergonomics, isn't it.
I live in a smallish house, and simply cannot afford to give up (allocate) a
space permanently for a big TV. It has to be moved on occasion for cleaning
and such.
If I had a 32" CRT, I'd need to hire a moving company!
I don't have the answers, just the comments.
I know what I had, I know what I have.
The CRT is an order of magnitude better than an LCD in every respect except
for bulk and portability. Maybe two orders! <g>
If you've a small room, I'd definitely go with CRT. Up to 27" is a very good
compromise, and workable, if just barely.
If you've a larger room, certainly LCD is a contender, as are eventual
advances in plasma sets, so I imagine.
Bottom line? I'm very excited about Hi-Definition television, but merely
tolerant of LCD screens. Such a dilemma, such an exercise in tolerance!
