This is a little house, in a small village in the Andes mts. of Bolivia,
that we stayed in one night last month.

The door on the left led into the kitchen, and the door on the right led to
this room where we slept on grass they had spread on the sloping floor. As
always in these villages, the people insisted on giving us food. Some of the
people gathered in curiousity to watch us as we spread out our sleeping bags
for the night.

This is the view up into the rafters. I just thought it was interesting
construction. It didn't look like the cord they used to bind the rafters
together came from the local hardware. A small colorful bird jumping around
the rafters also obviously called this place home, and wasn't about to let
us intruders drive him out, but I couldn't catch him in a picture.

The road to the village was quite bad, and we got stuck a few times trying
to get there in the darkness the previous evening. The people had been
notified we were coming for a visit, to show a film, and to give out radios
and other things to them. So in anticpation of our visit, the whole town had
apparently gone out to do road work, hoping we would be able to make it
through. When I heard this the next morning, I asked them "How long has it
been since anyone from outside your own people has visited your village
before?" Their immediate answer was, "Never".
We gave some clothing to the children.
