I'm all for helping out worthy organizations, and my prints go out each year
to a number of benefit auctions. Some of them I donate, others are bought by
patrons who then donate them. (I like that way a lot! <g>)
Sounds like the organization might have figured it could make some extra
bucks with an extra print, and obtained one from the photographer. You might
discuss this with him, and see whether he was contacted after the auction or
whether he gave the second print when he gave the first. If the organization
contacted him after the auction, I'd say buy from the photographer and don't
worry about it. If they went at the same time, well, you'll just have to let
your conscience be your guide.

Subject: [OM] Semi-OT - ethical dilemma
This week I heard from the event organizer and the photographer in separate
e-mails. The organizer said they had been given a second print, and they'd
be willing to sell it to me for my high bid. I also
heard from the photographer who said he had another print and could sell it
for what it would normally sell at a gallery.
