Can I just get this absolutely clear before I start in with the screwdriver?
This is what I think is the case:
OM-3 & OM-4 - remove the screw to get to the spring (that's the way it looks
on the parts drawing).
OM-1 & OM-2 - the screw should not be removed (only levels the crank).
Can you confirm/deny - sorry to appear to be so thick :-)

DON'T UNSCREW THAT SCREW! It's only purpose is to level the rewind handle
when closed down. You have no idea how many OM bodies I see with that screw
BROKEN OFF because people think it has to come out to work on the camera.
