The problem isn't just being strong enough to carry the big ones, it's
being able to hold it steady at the long end. I have some really lovely
shots with this lens at 300mm that just aren't quite sharp enough. The
one I posted as an example was taken at a really slow shutter speed for
300mm, about 1/60-1/125, but I turned off the car engine and rested the
lens on the partially open window for steadiness. So it really was being
a 'car lens'. The light was changing fast enough that I would have
missed the shot if I got out and set up the tripod.
