For the 2100 UZ at least, Olympus licensed Canon technology, and as I
understand it from an Olympus UK rep, the licence was for a specific number
of cameras. Once they had been manufactured, that wss the termination of
the licence.
Anyone have any views on the E-100 RS?

For one thing, Olympus did not own the IS technology used in those cameras.
Canon did. Probably a money factor there or something.
