Viewied from the top rear, the upper right contact serves the dual
purposes of lighting the flash ready light and telling the camera that a
T series flash is attached and turned on. That is how the camera knows
to switch to 1/60 second. With it covered, the body will keep the
shutter open when the flash does not give enough output, using available
light OTF as an addition to the light produced by the flash, which is
what the plain 2 does.
