Interesting. When I was in college, I drooled over the AR3s, but could
not afford them. I traded some guy some tube amps years ago for this
pair, they needed mids and tweeters, but I found some new old stock in
New Jersey and replaced the bad ones. These things are made of 3/4"
plywood and weigh like 40#s each. I love them.

He was there, but I believe Ed Vilchur is the one who first designed
the acoustic suspension speaker and started AR. I had a pair of those
too, but lost in a burglary.
