+3/-2 seems to work pretty well. I got that from someone's advice in a
magazine a couple of years ago. The full technique is to meter on your
deepest shadow (for which you want detail), then close down 2 stops; or
meter on your highest light (geddit? ;-)) and open up 3 stops. I think
that that is the right way around...
