If something is described as not working or "as is", then you have to expect
that it may well be a useless or parts item only. Sometimes it might be
worth taking a chance though, such as moose and others have done in scoring
a working OMPC that was described as parts.
Here is a slide duplicator that epay says I just "won". I always end up
paying though :-)

Seller has less than perfect feedback, but when the price is in the range of
$10 or less, I never worry about getting ripped off. Life is too short to
sweat the small stuff.
