Hi all,
Really I was never a fan of zoom lenses. I was convinced that they were
suitable for my Sony 8mm and that I could always take the time to frame a
picture with my poor MTF 200/4 (MC) tripod mounted and be happy. Good
portraits, good landscapes, good compressed perspective, good close ups with
the 25mm auto tube. Bought in '81, just before the 180/2.8 launching.
Recently I happenned to get a 85~250/5 like new for $200, with its tripod
collar (this is a low price where I live).
I changed my former opinion. Just began to experiment with it, but even
tried with the 2X-A and the 65~116 running some comparative tests.
I must be wrong, but with a 1-8 screen I feel as if I've got the 80/2 and
the 100/2.8 (will you ever use them at full aperture?).... :)) A little
distortion at 500mm/10 with the 2XA, but OTOH I can achieve critical
focusing using the zoom ring whith the 65~116 and tripod mounting the zoom,
and better results when with the T32.
I must say I do like this zoom... bulky, but capable.
Since I've read so little about him since I subscribed ;^)
