Just the way they're designed -- the focal length is the same, but one is
capable of getting very close to the subject, and the other one is
not. I'm unsure of this, but because of its design, I don't believe the
135/4.5 can focus to infinity, so you can't use it as a "standard"
moderate telephoto lens. On the other hand, as a macro lens, people tell
me it rocks.

It rocks alright and it *does* go to infinity. I don't think I'd set out
to use it as a standard tele 135, but with the 65-115 tube it is really
such a nice package that one could fairly easily do it. Kind of on the
dark, slowish side, however.
