> 1. When might one want to lock up the mirror on an OM1, OM2, and OM2n?
And how is this done?

When you are e.g. making a relatively long exposure on a tripod mounted
camera. Locking up the mirror removes one mechancial action which might add
to vibrations causing unsharp image. By turning the mirror lock-up on the
side of the mirro box.

> 2. I see ads for lenses that claim "absolutely no oil on the blades," or
"the diaphragm is oil free."

What is the nature and cause of this problem that many Ebay sellers
(especially) say they don't have?
Oil on diaphragm blades will cause the diaphragm action to become sluggish,
perhaps not stopping down fully by the time the eposure has been made =
overexposure.

> 3. I know "it depends," but should I buy a T32 or a T20?

The T32 is more versatile, as well as having greater output. Bounce head,
ability tu use external power on the Power Bouce Grip 2, ability to use in
TTL mode off camera without having to track down the T20 TTL adaptor.

> 4. Ever hear of reversing a 50mm lens on my OM1 and using it for close up
shots? Why in the world should this work?

Because the lens is designed to perform best when lens-to-film distance is
less than lens-to-subject distance. For extreme close-ups, this
relationship is reversed - so you reverse the lens to maintain best optical
performance.

> 5. I am drawn to stark, contrasty, sharp black and white photos. What
film should I use, Tri-X or Tmax? Or maybe something else?

I suspect the answer will be a very low speed, high contrast film, but there
are likely others better up-to-speed (pun unintended) than me.

> 6. The Photoworks lab does OK with color, but doesn't develop and scan
black and white film. Is there someone around who does this well and for a
reasonable price?

I think you probably mean locally to you, Richard. Pass.

> 7. Do you think there is a quality difference between the Om1 and Om2n,
or are they all the same high quality?

High quality of design, manufacture, reliability? I don't think there is a
difference. Design and qualitative differences, yes, of course.

> 8. Does Olympus still sell anything for the OM cameras?

Olympus makes, dealers sell. Olympus doesn't any longer make anything for
OM. In my experience, dealers sell what they have in stock!

> 9. What is the best way to clean a lens without damaging it?

I stuck my neck out on the question of cleaning mirrors, that's enough,
already!

> 10. Why is a 135mm/2.8 a telephoto lens, whereas a 135mm 4.5 is a macro
lens?

It's specific to the mechanical design of the lenses in question, not
because on is f/2.8 and the other f/4.5. The 4.5 has no helical focussing
mount, and is designed/optimised for macro work. Why? Because!

> 11. If Ebay is any measure, are prices for Olympus OM cameras, lenses,
and accessories skyrocketing? Is this something we can expect to continue?

If "we" keep on buying the stuff, and are willing to pay skyrocketing
prices, and resist the temptation to cash in the OM equipment we have
lovingly assembled, I guess the answer is yes on both counts. BUT there's a
lot of IFS in there.
