Being pedantic, I don't think these are good analogies.
With HTML mail, you're FORCING me to go through the gas station with my
horse-and-buggy! You're FORCING me to visit every gas station, even though I
know I won't find propane there!
A better analogy: with HTML mail, you're FORCING me to carry a big fuel tank on
my horse, fill up at every gas station, peer inside the tank, and throw it out
in disgust! :-)

I'll certainly go along with that. It sounds like we are in agreement that
plain text is what is appropriate for public fora.
