I'm not compulsive or anything, I just happen to have a spreadsheet with
some specs on some zooms of interest to me.
The specs on the Zuiko are from eSIF. Tamron 28-105 from B&H and may not
include the 9-10mm of an adaptall mount. Tamron 35-105 specs are
measured from my lens including mount. As you can see, the Tamron 35-105
is the same length and weight as the Zuiko and just a little fatter,
accomplishing all the breeding you ask for except for the wide end. The
67mm filter size is actually no disadvantage over the 62mm of the Zuiko
for me as it is the same as Tokina AT-X 35-200/3.5-4.5 (and the
equivalent Tamron SP). I use a 62-67mm ring to use the 67mm filters on
the Tamron SP 60-300/3.8-5.6, so either size is much the same for me.
I've been using the 28/2 to augment the wide end and recently picked up
a Tokina AT-X 24-40/2.8 to try out as a complement.
None of these lenses focus close enough for me.

I blame having had only one cup of coffee. I'm not awake enough to read well.
It's the 28-105/2.8 Tamron I've got. How much smaller is the 35-105/2.8?
Maybe adding those genes to the pool would be beneficial.
