Is there a way to refuse to sell to buyers like this once they post a bid?
Probably the best way is to state what you will and will not do to satisfy
a buyer up front. It sounds like this guy wanted a discount after the
purchase: a way to get around that is to state that you will refund all the
money upon the return of the lens, but you will *not* negotiate an
after-the-fact discount to a purchaser. In other words, they can get all
their money back (and return the item) or they keep the item at the
agreed-upon price. Perhaps not ideal, but it would prevent this particular
type of potentially shifty behaviour.
