You may be right, Skip, about the practicality of honouring a lifetime
warranty, but I should have no hesitation in pursuing legally a
manufacturer who failed to honour it - as long as they were still in
business. It would cost me nothing (in the UK), but it helps to
persuade manufacturers and retailers to maintain a good standard of
integrity in their dealings with their customers.

Gitzo tripod/monopods are easily amortized over the number of uses
that I've gotten from them.
You may be too quick to judge Gitzo by your experience, which sounds
poor.
