Yes - on-topic...
I find the claim that Nikon never changed their mount to be a bit of a con.
Yes, you can mount any lens but you can't necessarily use it. The newer
low-cost AF lenses (G-series I think) can't be used on the manual cameras
(even the newest FM-3a) because the aperture control is electronic.
And some lenses won't meter on some bodies.
And I was also disappointed (at Photokina while playing with a F100 and a
w/a zoom) that the idea of manual focus is 'turn this ring, something
happens in the camera, a motor whirs, and the focus changes'; you think
waiting for the shutter to fire on a digicam is annoying, try focussing
with a half-second delay between turning the barrel and seeing the result.
No, sorry, I'm staying OM! (ObOly)

But that has always been the case. F100 is a $1800 Canadian $ camera
that
will meter everything. Consider that you cannot get a pro DSLR for
$1800.
You can use any lens, you just have to use manual mode. My point really
was
that the Nikon mount has never changed while Canon's has, which screwed
many
people.
