Derek -- if you want a zoom and the range isn't too short, you could
consider the 35-70/3.6. This is probably sharper than the lenses you
mention, although not greatly so. Faster at the long end than the
35-70/3/5-4.5 although much bigger and heavier. Smaller and lighter (both
ways...) than the 35-105/3.5-4.5 and probably about the same cost or a bit
less expensive.
For a long lens thats faster for less money how about the 100/2.8 or the
135/2.8? Either of those will be sharp and probably less money than a
35-105/3.5-4.5. Then you could get a 85/2.0 for probably a bit more than the
35-105/3.5-4.5, or a 100/2.0 for a lot more... or just get them all <g>, not
a bad choice in the bunch. You really do need them all eventually...
