i tend to use Sam's Club, since they send off to the Fuji lab in San Diego (as
does Redlands Camera, but costing a LOT more). Premium photofinishing gets
sleeved negs or negs on strips, 4*6 prints with date on back and
handchecked to ensure color fidelity, and runs about 5$ for a roll of 24, two
day turnaround (officially; you cna get it next day most times). non premium
finishing (no sleeved negs, no date on back of print, no double checks)
runs half that. next day turnaround. dirt cheap if you ask me. PhotoCD is 5$ on
top of dev/print. if i'm doing stuff for others (extended family), i'll shoot
nice film (NPS or NPH) but still get it done at sams, after all, it's
still done by fuji, and all i really need is proof type prints as whoever i'm
shooting for will ask for the negs and go get their own reprints or
enlargements elsewhere. btw, if you dont like the way prints look, naturally
they'll do it again, free, regardless of what size. u just tell them "this
sunset is supposed to have red, don't correct it to yellow" or whatnot. i think
8x10 runs about 4 dollars a print.
needless to say, while it works for casual shooting, i'm starting to become
more demanding of what's on the table, therefore am likely to move to a place
that does it on location, using fuji frontier. haven't made the jump yet,
but will real soon!
