<< Just curious, what was the cost of a new OM-1n and OM-2n in the mid
to late seventies? >>
Depends on what you mean by "cost." Dealer cost for one? Dealer cost
in an order for 3 or more bodies (same or mixed models)? Suggested List
Price (SLP)? As we all know, SLP is pretty meaningless. In general,
Dealer Cost was what the grey market dealers were selling at. So
authorized dealers with customers who were magazine ad savvy couldn't
get away with much of a markup. Markup was determined by individual
dealers, so retail prices were all over the board.
Also, every country was different, since prices were set by the official
distributor. But for the USA, in the first half of 1978 (model: Dealer
Net 3-up/Dealer Net/SLP):
OM-1 chrome body: $166.14/$181.97/$280.00
OM-1 black body: $$180.97/$198.22/$305.00
OM-2 chrome body: $282.72/$304.47/$468.00
OM-2 black body: $298.97/$321.97/$495.00
Prices could change every 6 months. If you try compiling this data it'll
drive you nuts, especially since the exchange rate of the Yen vs. the
dollar was fluctuating, as well as the Consumer Price Index increasing
over the life of any individual OM component.
