"Why is the lens shade "petal" shaped (for want of a better term) on the E-10/E-20 and many other higher end cameres? Is it just to look sexy or does the shape have some real function?" Yup, and saves plastic, too! To be ideally effective, shade should be rectangular, to match the frame.
