Much of what differentiated Ansel Adams from his contemporaries -- and even
today, is his mastery in the darkroom. That's all Photoshop is -- the term
digital darkroom is for a reason.
Tell ya what.
This weekend, shoot some color print film. Just get the negs developed.
Find yourself a darkroom to rent.
Print the results.
No dodging and burning.
Only fixed development and exposure times -- have to go by the book.
Oh yeah, no color filters.
Bet the results wouldn't be that great.
I'm a much better 'artist' with Photoshop than I would be in a wet color
lab. The techniques are surprisingly similar, particularly if you have a
pad that let's you do 'real' dodging and burning.
Photoshop is just another tool in the photography arsenal. And it's not
'giving in' to digital. What I can do with a 4000dpi scanned image is still
LIGHT YEARS ahead of what I can do, even with the Olympus E-20.
