That's because you have that 35 semi-wide mounted (as mentioned in your
previous email). If you use a semi-wide, you have to move in close to fill
the frame. Then you hit the subject with a SHOE mounted flash and you've
dialed in exactly the right combination for red-eye. (The flash coming from
almost exactly the same axis as the lens.)
As Shakespeare advised,
