Jochen,
I had the privilege of visiting Cologne in the summer of 1979 and the Dom is
something to see, indeed. However, I was disgusted with how the local
establishment allowed the younger set to setup large pieces of graffiti
covered plywood, on the steps to the entrance on the plaza, for skate
boarding purposes. The church is a wonderful sight both, inside and out. The
construction started circa 1248 and wasn't completed until around the mid
1600s, as I recall. it is amazing how it towers over the city.
