Brass is a little bit heaver than steel but not much. Brass is much easier
to machine accurately than stainless steel. The real problem with stainless
is the tendency to gall, especially in threads. /jnm

Are you saying brass is heavier than stainless steel? Surely
in the quantity of material used for the lens mount, there is
not much difference in weight between the two metals. I am
not sure how much smaller (and lighter, if at all) the lens
mount can be made from stainless steel compared to brass.
