Good question. The answer is, that I travel a lot. By air. And with
limited carry-on (even more so after the NYC incident), I cannot take a
padded camera bag in addition to the laptop bag and the briefcase (before,
a smile and an explanation usually got the extra bag on, but the
airport/airline crew has gone terribly anale...) Hence, I carry a generic,
maximum-measure trolly with all things fragile in the cabin - checking in
the padded camera bag (for use "on location") inside the suitcase.
So...I have cameras, lenses, filters and a laptop scattering around the
large compartment of a trolly. Without protection, mint lenses quickly go
to be beaters, I assume. Ohh, and lens-caps do not stick that tight.
The solution is obvious: everready cases and lens cases. Works well,
actually.
