No, the boys did use Cyalumes before some bright spark (;-))
discovered that the US boys were using the finger torch. I still
have some miniature light sticks that I keep in case I need them ...
I don't think that they were ever secret Jon. I don't know where to
look, but they are probably on an aviation or survival website
somewhere in the US.

Various sizes and colors are available under the brand name
"Cyalume" here in U.S.
They're available all over the place here. Some towns give them out
to kids during Halloween trick-or-treating for safety (visibility).
American Cyanamid developed them around 1971 or 72. I was present at
the first demonstration the company gave, right here in New Jersey.
