I can't believe that Gary's still been collecting price data. I stopped
early this fall because the results were beginning to have diminishing
returns. It also took too much time to compile and keep up with the data;
as least too much for my schedule.
His thouroughness is WAY beyond mine. His data is much better with regard
to condition, BIN, etc. Gary also wants to find some way to charge for his
data, otherwise it would have replace my dataset. I can't say that blame
him, given the obvious time investment.
For me? My more simplistic approach got me the data for my needs:
- Include all successful autions,
- Include all reasonably-priced BIN's (ignore low-balls),
- Throw out really poor-condition items,
- Throw out auctions where the buyer got into a bidding war and paid way
over market.)
And I stopped collecting data for the common lenses like 135/3.5, 28/3.5,
50/1.8 a while ago. The volume was too high and the prices weren't changing
much.

I agree, I don't see why 9/11 should have any influence on the statistics.
However, I do think that by now Gary needs a break from collecting the
statistics. 9/11 would be a perfect point for doing that.
