I did much the same thing. I purchased a Tamron 2.5 just before Christmas. It
arrived the day after. I have yet to shoot with it, but hopefully this weekend.
I paid $150.00 for it, much less than the Zuiko. This is the older version with
the 49 mm filter thread, which has the added advantage of using the same size
filters as the rest of my backpacking/cycling kit. No extension tube with this
one. I am going to see how it works with the 65-116 tube. the lens does go to
1:2 w/o a tube, which will work fine for most of the backcountry wildflowers.
