One important reason not to solve the vibration problem of an SLR with a
TLR is a key reason for a SLR in the first place - Parallax. One big
area where the miror, diaphram, shutter problems looms large is in macro
work, where the TLRs have their own set of daunting problems. Then for
those of us who use 35mm film scanners MF film is a problem. Of course,
I could use the old Rolleicord with Rollekin 35mm adapter, but that's
pretty klunky, more a collector's item than practical picture taking device.
Olympus clearly felt a major solution to these problems lay in the use
of large, complex organic damping systems. With all their long lonses
they say "When using a tripod, hold the camera steady with both hands
and press the shutter release with the ball of finger, not with the
cable release."

Why so many work-arounds? If maximum detail is
required, add a TLR to your kit. A Yashica Mat124 or D
(if a D make sure it has the 4 element Yashinon lens)
can be had for about $150US, and if interchangeable
lenses are peferable the Mamiya C system could be
purchased for about 7 to 8 hundred USD for a body,
65,80,180mm setup. I'm not saying give up your 35mm OM
system, just use the strenghts of each type to get the
results you hoped for. John Robison
