To a point. Chips get faster and use less juice when they're smaller. Yields
[usable chips per die] go way down as the size goes up. A full-frame sensor
would be very very expensive, indeed.
So, the right path is to build better lenses for smaller imaging areas until
you're at the limits of the glass and bring the sensors as fine as you can get
them.
