I think in Jims case, the entire plastic piece on the top cover (that holds
the hilight , shadow buttons) was separated from the top (broken mount
studs) putting too much space between the buttons and pads.
It's a tricky job because when you take out the screws inside the top cover
all the little pads can fall out along with the springs and buttons. It's a
given that you shouldn't try it at home, imo.
