Hmm. I have a silvernosed 50/1.4 and at wide open its
a bit soft but not a dog of a lens. 4xx,xxx SNit works
quite well, although it has somewhat pastel color
transmission and almost no contrast its a great lens
for people shots, probably the most accurate skintones
of any lens in my arsenal. I must have gotten the good
egg of the bunch. But with so many people panning this
lens I would have to agree that one must be careful
with the early SC 1.4 versions, its a case of hit or
miss. also I'd disagree with Ray's last comment about
the 50/1.4 vs 50/1.8. The last lens you would ever
want to get is a silvernosed 50/1.8, there is a true
dog of a lens, bad everything, avoid that thing like
the plague.
